dragonboat can be used as a stand alone PPM platform, or integrate seamlessly with Agile / project management tools (Jira, Github issues, Clubhouse).
dragonboat has the following 5 modules. You may use 1 or more of them as needed.
- Request Module: to collect requests from your customers, stakeholders, and teams. This can be accessible to everyone in your company.
Idea Module: to organize, align and prioritize ideas (aka EPIC, Features) in a multi-dimensional way (OKR, Theme, Categories, Timeframes)
Forecast: to plan upcoming roadmaps based on high level estimates, available resources, and dependencies. Only Planning and Conformed Stage ideas will show up on the Forecast page. The Confirmed Ideas are managed on the Manage page but will display on the Forecast page to "block off" resources they need. Forecast page gives a real time view on planned allocation against key dimensions of your portfolio before commit. You may also forecast staffing needs to optimize hiring. (Video here)
Manage: detailed timeline and staffing in 2 separate views: Timeline view is a robust Gantt tool, where Staffing view enables drag and drop staffing / task assignment. You may add additional tasks (beyond engineering work) to create program plans.
Dashboard: to enable easy visibility for you, your team and your stakeholders
- Timeline report: gantt chart view for multi-faceted portfolio visibility directly pulled from team tools.
Summary report: Powerpoint like dynamic reports, roadmap history, allocations reports etc.
Snapshot: the operating dashboard for leaders to have a snapshot on execution, and dive down to details as needed.
Progress report: roll up and drill down at Portfolio, Roadmap, and Idea level, automatically pulled from Jira (or Github issues)
In dragonboat, an Idea is usually a product feature that can be independently released to customers. An idea represents typically 1 or more sprints of work. It may turn into an EPIC in Jira or a Project in Github issues.
Idea follows a roadmap planning work flow (Idea Stage) from Backlog to Planning to Confirmed. The Planning stage reduces the noise to the rest of company while allows Product team to deliberate on ideas without causing confusion or interruption to current execution.
There is another field - Phase - for you to custom define finer phases based on your needs. These two fields are not directly related.
